The Neptune Fountain (Polish Fontanna Neptuna ) is a fountain in Gdansk and was set up in front of the Artus Court in 1633 .
The Kashubians call the figure Krësztof .
history
It goes back to a suggestion by the mayor of Gdańsk, Bartholomäus Schachmann , who, under the impression of a trip to Italy, decided to decorate Gdańsk with a monument in honor of the sea god Neptune . The figure of Neptune was made by the sculptors Peter Husen and Johann Rogge ; the fountain itself was designed by Abraham van den Blocke , who also did all the stone carvings (basin, bowl and column). The iron latticework dates from 1634 .
