The Nestlé Purina PetCare Germany GmbH is a subsidiary of Nestle SA, based in Euskirchen . The company was created through various takeovers and mergers. Today Nestlé Purina is one of the largest manufacturers of pet food in the world. Around 18,000 employees work at 60 locations in 50 countries.

History of the Euskirchen location

Albert Latz has been making dog biscuits since around 1900 . On March 11, 1905, he had his father's old sole leather tannery deleted from the commercial register and registered a dog biscuit and concentrate factory as a business. Since poultry feed was also produced at the same time, the first trademark showed a Great Dane in full profile, with a proud rooster on its back. Albert Latz died in 1923 and the business was continued by his heirs.

After the Second World War, the company expanded. In 1946, cat food was also produced for the first time under the new “Latz” brand. In the 1950s, the capacity was increased to 12,000 tons per year through the acquisition of an industrial blast furnace and a dry / meat mixing plant. Between 1967 and 1968, today's premises were built because the capacity in the plant in the city center was no longer sufficient.

Due to the strong competition on the market, the company was taken over on September 1, 1971 by the US company Ralston Purina USA, which built a can factory in 1974 to complete its product range. In 1980 the Euskirchen plant was expanded and its capacity increased to 80,000 tons per year.

In 1983 Ralston Purina withdrew from the European market and sold the company to the American company Quaker Oats . The Quaker Latz GmbH became the second largest pet food manufacturers in Germany.

In April 1995, the British company Spillers Pet Foods took over the pet division of the Quaker Oats Company. The company was renamed again to Spiller Deutschland GmbH . The Euskirchen location kept the suffix “Latz”.

In 1998, the Nestlé Group and its subsidiary Friskies bought Spillers Pet Foods. With the merger, the company headquarters was relocated from Gersthofen near Augsburg to Euskirchen, and Friskies Deutschland GmbH became the second largest pet food manufacturer in Europe.

In 2001 bought Nestlé , the company Ralston Purina . The result was Nestlé Purina PetCare Deutschland GmbH , which produces dry food and reward items with over 400 employees in Euskirchen, the only plant in Germany.

Nestlé Purina PetCare products are sold in Germany through the brands Adventuros, Beneful , Beyond, Dentalife , Felix , Purina One , Gourmet , Pro Plan and Bonzo .
