Network Drive (own spelling network drive ) is a file hosting - service from Germany. Netzdrive guarantees the protection of privacy during file sharing and at the same time protects against data loss in the sense of online data backup . The clients (locally installed program for synchronization) are available for Windows , Mac OS X , Linux , iOS and Android . Secure file synchronization is possible between all operating systems. After successful activation of the client, CloudFree is initially available with 5 GB of free storage, which can be used free of charge for 30 days. The user then has the option of purchasing a license with costs. The Netzdrive servers are located on German soil and are therefore subject to strict German data protection laws . Corporate customers receive a security certificate for their IT and data protection department on request. The Netzdrive monitors any local folder in the file system and synchronizes their content with the personally invited team members. The software is also suitable for synchronizing folders between several own computers or notebooks. All current files and documents are thus available to all team members at any time, even offline, in the file system. It thus implements important basic functionalities of a distributed file system . The data is automatically synchronized between the computers via a server- supported peer-to-peer- like communication structure. Netzdrive offers extensive rights management , so the creator of a space can choose whether invited members can only read, read and write, or delete and invite other users. The automatically activated versioning prevents the irretrievable overwriting of files. Older versions are available on the server and can be made the current version by the space owner. The versioning is infinite, but can be limited in the CloudPro and CloudOffice variants. Deleted files are moved to a space recycle bin on the server side; this must be actively deleted by the space owner. This prevents accidentally locally deleted files from being lost. Thanks to the consistently strong end-to-end encryption (256 bit), it is not possible to read out the data on the transport or on the servers.

Netzdrive is part of the Netzcloud Group and has been developed since 2010. The Netzcloud is developed and operated by Cratchmere.com GmbH, which has existed since 1998. Cratchmere.com operates independently of government agencies and institutions and conducts its server structure exclusively in certified colocation - data centers in Germany.

With the release of version 3.2 for Apple iOS and Android , Netzdrive has built in an Office solution from a third-party provider. This guarantees that Office files can be opened and edited within the app . This functionality ensures that data remains in the secure environment of Netzdrive at all times, even the operating systems of the mobile devices have no access.
criticism
- The monthly fees are in some cases higher than those of other providers of online data backups , mostly based abroad .
- Installation of a local client / program is required. There is no access via a web interface. The provider justifies this with the consistent encryption.
- Due to the decentralized key management it is necessary that a user backs up his access data locally.
