With its goals, the network is close to the confessional movement from the 1960s / 70s.

On March 27, 2020, the network said it had 2583 members, as well as various parishes and organizations. Ulrich Parzany is the chairman of the network . The management of the network includes a. also the theologian Rolf Hille , the religious philosopher Daniel von Wachter and some other theologians and parish priests.

history

The Biblical and Confession network was founded on January 23, 2016 on the initiative of the evangelist and theologian Ulrich Parzany with 65 leading people from the evangelical and pietistic spectrum in Kassel.

This was preceded by a publicly conducted controversy, which was triggered by statements by the chairman of the German Evangelical Alliance (DEA) Michael Diener in the newspaper “ Die Welt ”. The debate about the understanding of the Bible was sparked primarily by ethical issues such as B. the attitude towards homosexuality . After Parzany had replied to Diener's statements with an open letter , the network was founded.

The theologian Gisa Bauer observes here in the evangelical field a drifting apart of a more liberal and a more conservative camp. The network's concern is also highly controversial in the evangelical scene. For example, the evangelical weekly magazine Idea Spektrum published a debate on the understanding of the Bible between network member Markus Till and evangelical theology professor Thorsten Dietz .

At a consultation on November 3, 2018 in Kassel, 83 theologians and network members unanimously adopted an “appeal to Protestant Christians”. In it the signatories call for adherence to the traditional creed of the Protestant churches. The differences in understanding of Scripture were particularly evident at the crystallization point of the blessing and marriage of homosexual couples in the EKD churches.

Effect of the network

The network is particularly evident in evangelical journalism. Especially in the internal church conflict regarding the blessing / marriage of same-sex couples, the network repeatedly speaks out. The tension with the DEA is also an issue.
