Rolf Hille (born May 15, 1947 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German evangelical theologian , pastor of the Württemberg regional church and was honorary professor for systematic theology and apologetics at the Free Theological University (FTH) Gießen from 2013 until his retirement in 2019 .

Life

Hille grew up with his single mother, who was supported by her pietistic family members. From 1968 to 1973 he studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and Heidelberg. Then he was church radio editor at Saarländischer Rundfunk (Saarbrücken) until 1974 and then until 1976 first editor at the information service of the Evangelical Alliance (idea) in Wetzlar. He started his vicariate in Schorndorf (Württ.). From 1979 to 1982 Hille was a research assistant for Protestant theology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the subject of systematic theology . He held the office of General Secretary of the Student Mission in Germany (SMD) from 1982 to 1984 in Marburg. From 1984 to 1989 he was the director of studies at the parish seminary of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg in the training of vicars (focus on homiletics and pastoral theology). From 1989 Hille was director of studies and between 1995 and 2009 rector of the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen. In 1990 he was at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich with his work on Karl Heim Dr. theol. PhD. From 1988 Hille was on the board and between 1993 and 2013 honorary chairman of the working group for evangelical theology (AfeT). He is co-editor of the Evangelical Theology Yearbook . From 1994 to 2000 he was chairman and then until 2017 a member of the main board of the German Evangelical Alliance . In addition, he was chairman of the Theological Commission of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) from 1996 to 2008 , on whose executive committee he had been appointed in 1986, and from 2008 to 2016 its director for ecumenical affairs. In 2000 he spent a research semester at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey, USA and completed his master's degree (M.A.) in philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 2009 to 2013 he was in charge of the PhD thesis at the Albrecht-Bengel House, which involved teaching in the systematic theology department. His successor as head of the doctoral thesis is Rainer Riesner . From 2013 until his retirement in 2019 Hille was honorary professor for systematic theology and apologetics at the Free Theological University (FTH) Gießen. He is a member of the management of the “Network Bible and Confession” founded in 2016 by Ulrich Parzany .

Hille is married to Dorothea Hille and the couple have three children.
