Herbert H. Klement

Herbert H. Klement (* 1949 in Rendsburg ) is a theologian and professor emeritus for Old Testament at the state-independent Theological University in Basel .

Life

Herbert Klement studied from 1971 to 1976 theology at the State Independent Theological University of Basel, 1974-75 at -Philipps University in Marburg and 1986/87 at the Ruhr University in Bochum. This was followed in 1989/90 studies in Akkadian and Egyptology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and from 1990 to 1996 in England (Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, in connection with the University of Coventry), where he wrote his dissertation on 2 Samuel 21 –24: Context Structure and Meaning PhD.

From 1976 to 1989 he was state youth officer in the Rheinisch-Westfälischer EC youth association , from 1990 to 1996 he was director of studies and lecturer for the Old Testament at the Bibelseminar Wuppertal.

From 1997 he is a lecturer and from 1999 until today he is professor at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Leuven , Belgium. From October 2005 until his retirement in May 2015, he succeeded Samuel R. Külling as professor and head of the Old Testament department at the state-independent Theological University of Basel and chaired the then newly founded doctoral committee.

He works as a guest lecturer for the Old Testament at the Free Theological University of Giessen (FTH) and in the Forum Wiedenest .

In addition, Klement has been a member since 1989 and from 1997 to 2015 theological consultant and on the board of the Working Group for Evangelical Theology (AfeT) in conjunction with the German Evangelical Alliance and was co-founder of the Old Testament Working Group (FAGAT) in 1991. He has been a member of the Fellowship of European Evangelical Theologians (FEET) since 1989, and was on the executive board from 2002 to 2010. Klement was also co-founder in 2008 and until 2014 co-editor of the book series "Studies on Theology and the Bible" (STB) at Lit Verlag .
