Eberhard Troeger

Eberhard Troeger (born March 22, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German Protestant pastor of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland , Islamic scholar and author.

Live and act

Eberhard Troeger studied Protestant theology in Schwetzingen . This was followed by a vicariate in the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. Since 1963 he has been studying Islam, the Arab world and the history of Syria. From 1966 to 1975 he worked with the Gospel Community of the Middle East (EMO), Wiesbaden, in Aswan / Egypt and was its leader from 1975 to 1998. Until he retired in 2003, he continued to work for the mission society in travel, lecture and teaching service.

Troeger is a co-founder of the Islamic Working Group and the Institute for Islamic Issues of the German Evangelical Alliance. Between 1983 and 1991 he was the first chairman of the “Working Group for Evangelical Missiology” (AfeM). He is the author of the Bibelbund and a member of the editorial team of the magazine of the Institute for Islamic Issues, Islam and Christian Faith. Islam and Christianity .

Troeger has five children with his wife Brigitte Troeger, who died in 2017, and has lived in Wiehl near Gummersbach since 2008 .
