Christof Sauer

Christof Sauer (* 1963 in Biberach an der Riß ) is a German pastor of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg , theologian, religious and missionary scholar and professor for religious freedom and research into the persecution of Christians.

Live and act

Christof Sauer studied Protestant theology from 1983 to 1992 at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1992 he passed the first theological service examination in Tübingen. This was followed by vicariate and pastoral service between 1993 and 2000 and a special pastoral service in the Evangelical Church in Württemberg from 2011 to 2017. After passing the Second Theological Service Exam, he was ordained in 1995 .

In 2002 he received his doctorate with his dissertation on Christian Witness in a Muslim Environment Reaching the unreached Sudan Belt: Guinness, Kumm and the Sudan Pionier Mission zum D.Th. in Missiology from the University of South Africa (UNISA), Pretoria. In 2013 he completed his habilitation in missiology and intercultural theology on "Martyrdom and Mission in Context: Selected Positions from Worldwide Christianity" at the Church University of Wuppertal / Bethel , where he then worked as a private lecturer until 2017.

Sauer has been Vice Director of the International Institute for Religious Freedom (IIRF) of the World Evangelical Alliance and editor of the International Journal for Religious Freedom since 2006 . In 2008/09 he was a lecturer in missiology and religious studies and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Stellenbosch , South Africa since 2011 and part-time professor for religious studies and missiology at the Evangelical Theological Faculteit Leuven, Belgium, since 2014 . In 2017 he was appointed to the "Endowed Professorship for Religious Freedom and Research into the Persecution of Christians" from the Free Theological University of Giessen .

His main research interests are religious freedom as well as discrimination and persecution of Christians .
