New church songs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Congregational Songs (abbreviated NGL ) is the title of a church hymn book that was used primarily in the services and gatherings of the congregations of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches as a collection of songs to complement the congregational songs from 1993 to 2003. In community circles, it was also because of its short Einbandfarbe the blue called while the main hymnal community songs as the Red was called. With the introduction of the new free church hymn book Fieren & Loben , in which many songs from the New Congregational Songs were included, it became increasingly less important.

Scope, content and structure

The new church songs present 161 songs. The texts, especially their translations into German as well as their melodies and sentences, are mostly from the 20th century. In addition to some songs of the revival movement , especially songs of the charismatic awakening , the evangelical movement and communitarian communities were included in this song collection.

The well-known free church lyricists and composers whose songs have been included in the hymn book Neue Gemeindelieder include Günter Balders, Klaus and Hella Heizmann , Wiard Popkes , Paul Ernst Ruppel , Hartmut Stiegler as well as Peter Strauch and Jörg Swoboda .

The structure is mainly based on the practice of worship . The first part (30 songs) is about the worship of God. The second part (20 songs) deals with praise and thanks . Part 3 (9 songs) and 4 (9 songs) are dedicated to intercession and the word of God . Four hymns relate to the Lord's Supper and five chants relate to the topics of church and community . The call to faith is the theme of 19 songs. 45 songs are about confession , following and trusting Jesus Christ . Eight songs deal with the times of day and evening and eight songs with the blessing .

Song selection and editing

Günter Balders , hymnologist and professor of church history at the theological seminar of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches , Hartmut Stiegler and Wolfgang Bauer played a key role in the selection of songs and their processing .
