Helga Poppe

Helga Esther Poppe (* 1942 in Leipzig ) is a German songwriter for new sacred songs .

Helga Poppe was born in Leipzig, but has lived in West Germany since 1948. She attended the German music high school in Würzburg and learned to play the piano. She self-taught to play the guitar and flute. She worked as a primary school teacher in Munich , Nuremberg and Augsburg . She has lived in Friedberg near Augsburg since 2000 .

Since 2003 Helga Poppe has been visiting autistic children and senior citizens in old people's homes with her dogs as part of the Maltese project “With animals for people” . Over the years Poppe has composed around 250 songs. According to her own statements, the songs come to her mind “just like that”, always text and melody at the same time. The impetus for their musical work was an evangelism organized by the Brotherhood of Christ Bearers . After a concert with Br. Siegbert's band, she remembered her first song on the way home: The street is full of love.

Poppe's best-known songs originated in the early days of the New Spiritual Song and spread quickly. Her song O Lord, when you come, the world will be new again can be found in the Praise of God published in 2013 (No. 233).
