The new Roman Catholic parish church Ludesch is in the north of the municipality Ludesch im Walgau in Vorarlberg . The parish church consecrated to St. Sebastian belongs to the Walgau-Walsertal deanery in the Feldkirch diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

The baroque church was built between 1637 and 1639 with the support of Bailiff Johann Rudolf von der Halden and was elevated to a parish church in 1640. The tower was given an onion dome in 1808. Around 1883 the nave was extended with the builder Ignaz Wolff and Wilhelm Klaus. The portico presented shows the building inscription 1641–1912 on the apex.

Church exterior

The church stands in a walled cemetery. The nave has four arched windows and a facade without plastic structure, the choir has one arched window each. The two-story north tower stands at the choir, the octagonal upper floor has a curved cornice with an onion dome. The west facade has a portico and above it two arched windows and a circular window in the gable field.

Church interior

The four-bay nave has a stitch cap barrel vault on strong pillars, the windows stand in deep, flat arch niches. To the west of the nave is a one-and-a-half-bay gallery with a curved parapet. The retracted round arched choir arch has a profiled frame with a stucco cartouche on pillars. The retracted two-bay choir with a straight end has a needle-cap barrel vault on wall pilasters. In the choir are two arched doors to the tower and the sacristy.

The frescoes in the nave, in front St. Sebastian in front of Emperor Maximilian, M. Solomon's temple consecration, in the back agar in the desert, painted by Michael Anton Fuetscher (1815). Jakob Bertle (1876/1878) painted the frescoes of the Emmaus disciples in the choir . All paintings are in a Rococo stucco decor from 1777/1778.

Furnishing

The high altar with black marble from Bings has six columns on a curved floor plan and a flat extension, built by Johann Walser (1777). The high altar painting Martyrdom of St. Sebastian painted Gebhard Flatz (1836).

The organ case and the gallery parapet were built around 1777/1778. The organ was built in 1980 by the Mayer company from Feldkirch. Peter Löffler names a bell in 1515.
