The New Parish Church of Steyr-Münichholz is located in the Münichholz district in the municipality of Steyr in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church Christkönig belongs to the deanery of Steyr in the diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building .

history

After the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany in 1938, the rural town of Münichholz was significantly expanded as a result of the Steyr-Münichholz subcamp . The population was unspoken and secret by the pastor Josef Meindl of the parish church Steyr-St. Michael looks after. After the war in 1945, a place of worship was set up in a barrack church under Soviet occupation . The construction of the first emergency church failed in 1945 due to poor building materials. In the summer of 1946 construction began again and in December 1946 the old Münichholz parish church was consecrated. In 1947, the Order of the Oblates took over pastoral care. The foundation stone was laid in 1964 for today's new church building. The architects Hans Riener and Helmut Kern created the plans.

The tower

The church, kept in the sober gray of the exposed concrete, has wooden ceilings and benches in a warm natural tone. The 41 m high church tower stands free next to the church. The entrance front with a concrete wall without openings protruding in the upper area is shaped with various cubes. The longitudinal facades are lightly plastered. The interior is illuminated by a triangular ribbon of windows in the gable area of ​​the trench roof. The west facade is made of concrete. A single-storey, flat-roofed concrete extension connects to the south. Simple entrance situation in the east, exposure through a high-rise, narrow window band. In front of the church there is a free-standing, high, seven-storey church tower, consisting of two continuous concrete walls with no openings, which are stiffened by vertical concrete girders. The top floor of the tower is closed and has a high metal cross. In the south of the church is the two-storey, flat-roofed parish center, a block-like, simple concrete building with partly generous windows.
