The New Government is a building in the East Westphalian city of Minden and. It was built between 1902 and 1906 on the abandoned fortifications at the Wesertor by government builders Paul Kanold and Paul Kieschke in the neo-renaissance style ( Weser renaissance ) for the Minden district government . This existed in this form of administration in Minden since 1816 and was previously housed at the Großer Domhof in the center of the city. The government building built in Weserglacis was given the name "New Government" while the former government building was later referred to as " Old Government ". The district government was relocated to Detmold in accordance with the Lippe punctuation in 1947 , since then the new government has been occupied by various institutions such as the Central Railway Office of Deutsche Bahn and is a listed building. The building was partially destroyed in the Second World War, and on September 18, 1950, the topping-out wreath blew over the building. The main front was rebuilt in a simple form, the second larger gable above the main front was not rebuilt. DB AG moved out in spring 2017.

The city of Minden has rented parts of the building since April 2017 as an interim solution as part of the upcoming town hall renovation. 180 workplaces have been located in the government building since mid-October, including the registry office, youth welfare office, surveying and geoservice, as well as organization and personnel. The entire town hall complex will be renovated between 2017 and 2021.

Trivia

Since the Minden branch of today's Detmold district government has its headquarters at Büntestrasse 1, the “New Government” is now often referred to as the “Old Government”. Particularly striking in this context is the naming of the parking lot "Old Government", east of the building, which is actually located at the "New Government".
