Architecture and history

The courtyard, consisting of two wings, was built in the first half of the 18th century and served as a forester's house and restaurant. The half-timbered house is on the west side of the courtyard . The compartments of the two-storey building are provided with ornamental brickwork. The building is covered by a mansard roof .

A smaller farm building extends on the north side. It is built from rubble stones and half-timbering. The compartments are also filled with decorative lining.

It is said that the poet Joseph von Eichendorff got lost on September 11, 1805 in the forest near Suderode. He was on a nocturnal hike from Stubenberg near Gernrode via Mägdesprung to the wire mill when a wild boar attacked him and his companions , whereupon you completely lost your direction. Von Eichendorff came across a tavern in the forest while wandering around. It is assumed that this was the Neue Schenke. However, he did not stop there, because after looking through the window, he found the inn full of wild bearded men and did not want to spend the night there with the money he had brought with him. Von Eichendorff then went on to Suderode.

Currently (as of 2014) the farm is used for residential purposes and is not used as a restaurant.
