The publisher has been a publisher since 1991 and is operated by four collaborating partners. The IVW-controlled circulation is 20,000 copies per month. The city magazine appears monthly and is distributed to around 500 display points. This makes it one of the largest Bavarian city magazines. The main distribution area is Augsburg and the surrounding districts of Aichach-Friedberg , Donau-Ries , Dillingen and Landsberg am Lech .

history

The magazine was founded in 1978 by Teddy Nehmke-Kant, Arno Löb , Michael G. Symokla and Bernhard Leitenmeier and was then still called Szene . It appeared in newspaper format and was initially only intended as a newsletter for the Jazzhouse, a pub that Nehmke-Kant ran. In 1982 the former newspaper became the magazine with a colored glossy cover. In 1990, for financial reasons, the paper was sold to the then employees Charlie Sono, Walter Sianos, Peter Eberle and Daniel Anzaldua, who have shared the management team since then. They decided to change their name to Neue Szene . The city magazine is still free.

Target groups and readership

Readership by age group

According to statistical information (n = 2015, 2009y.), The main readership tends to be younger, but the spectrum - according to the results of the survey - ranges from 24 to 74 years. There are currently 776,992 people in the 24–74 age group living in the distribution area. These are also considered to be the potential readership of the city magazine. However, the target group between 24 and 48 years makes up 60% of the users. Most readers live in the city of Augsburg. Around 130,000 people read the magazine here more or less often. The remaining readership is distributed evenly across the rest of the distribution area: In the Friedberg area, the city magazine even reaches around 64% of the population, Aichach 57%, Neusäß 57%. In addition, the magazine is read outside of the circulation area. Overall, the number of readers is well over 400,000. Of these, around 258,000 are between the ages of 15 and 44 who read the city magazine occasionally to regularly.

Online appearances

The website has been around for 15 years. After the fourth restart in 2012, Neue Szene Online is a source of information for dates and addresses in and around Augsburg with editorial contributions, mainly from the field of culture and events. Articles, classified ads and dates can be called up in real time, just as they are entered by the editors for the print edition in the editorial system.

marketing

Since the magazine is available free of charge, it is financed only from advertisements. Advertising accounts for an average of 25% of an issue. Therefore, the marketing department is the core of the business and is responsible for financing the magazine. Special topics and PR texts are mainly written here. The areas of layout and design are integrated into the marketing department.

Special publications

In addition to the monthly magazine, the publisher updates its own special publications in different magazine formats every year:

  • Beer garden guide
  • Gastro guide
  • Healthy & beautiful
  • Uniguide
  • Wedding guide

Events

In addition to the tasks of a publishing house, the Neue Szene organizes and supports cultural events in Augsburg and the region.

  • Band of the Year is a talent competition of the New Scene Augsburg, which has been supported by the Stadtjugendring Augsburg since 1999. The winners receive career-promoting measures. In 2007 the magazine received the Bavarian rock award PICK UP together with the Stadtjugendring Augsburg for the successful promotion of young talent.
