The New Newspaper for the Weekend (NZ) is a weekly newspaper from Gerhardt Verlag that appears in eight local editions (in the districts of Leer , Emsland , Cloppenburg , Ammerland and the city of Oldenburg ). Within these regions a free edition is delivered to all accessible households, whereby the newspaper reaches 800,000 people according to its own information.

The edition is 387,733 copies. The NZ is financed through advertisements and inserts. According to its own statements, it is a "modern weekly newspaper that makes the newspaper tangible" and sees itself as a "platform for the citizens of the region and for the citizens of the region". The idea behind this is that every citizen can write articles about local events and then publish them on the NZ internet platform (see information box on the right) . Selected works will then find their way into an issue.
