Schwäbisch Hall. The brine bath on Unterwöhrd, inaugurated in 1880, on a postcard from around 1900.

The new brine bath was a spa house in Schwäbisch Hall , a town in Baden-Württemberg . It was located on the Kocherinsel Unterwöhrd south of the medieval town center in the immediate vicinity of the old salt water bath, which was built in 1827 .

description

It was erected in 1880 as an "expensive new building [...] in the Swiss style, a style of historicism ". There is also a drawing by the architect Holch, which shows a cross-section of the “conversation room” of the New Solbad. When Schwäbisch Hall developed into a health resort, around 13,000 guests visited the house around 1900. The building was called the "Städtisches Solbad" and was also the public bathing facility, where the population of Schwäbisch Hall, who at the time did not have bathrooms in their apartments, could take warm baths. For a long time there were several medical practices in the building that offered bathing treatments and electrotherapy. However, the spa business was affected by the effects of the First World War from 1914, a resumption of the spa business after the two world wars was unsuccessful. As a result of several renovations with redesigns of the outer facade and the tower, the building increasingly lost its originally historic character.

The brine bath was then used as the "Solbad" inn with a restaurant, ballroom and beer garden until the beginning of the 1960s. However, the building began to deteriorate during this time. The brine bath closed in 1967 and was used as a sleeping place by the homeless after it was vacant. The town council of Schwäbisch Hall decided on October 11, 1967 to demolish it. A fire broke out in the building shortly afterwards. The demolition began on January 25, 1968.

In the place of the former brine bath, the beer garden on Unterwöhrd is now in the summer season, in the immediate vicinity of which is the Haller Globe Theater .
