history

Ludwig-Ulrich Neuffer (1872)

The Gebr. Neuffer window factory was founded on January 13th, 1872 by Ludwig-Ulrich Neuffer in Stuttgart, when he acquired a 500-year-old glazier in the so-called “ Bohnenviertel ” there. It was about the 500-year-old "Christian Schramm Glazier" in Becherstrasse on Hirschgraben. With steadily growing sales, the Neuffer company supplied the windows for central buildings in the city, for example for the Stuttgart City Hall , the Königsbau , the Old Palace and the Academy of Fine Arts . On January 24, 1887, the company founder was finally appointed " Hofglaser " by the court building authorities .

The company, which had grown considerably, moved to a larger property on Rosenstrasse in Stuttgart in 1905. These were the buildings of the Wilhelm Wimpff wagon construction factory and the neighboring Diffenbacher customer sawmill. Around this time, Ludwig-Ulrich's two sons also joined their father's company: Oskar Neuffer after many years of training as a glazier and Albert Neuffer after completing a commercial training. In 1907 Ludwig-Ulrich Neuffer was awarded the title "Royal Court Glasses" by the Württemberg Court Marshal's Office .

In 1913, Ludwig-Ulrich Neuffer developed a “reform window”, which was patented as a “Neuffer double window” by the royal patent office under the number DR 171244: With this construction, the inner and outer windows could be opened and closed together. Soon afterwards, son Albert Neuffer developed the “record window”, a composite window variant with a particularly small sash spacing, and a short time later the sliding window “System Neuffer”, which is mainly used in hotels, hospitals and schools.

From 1934 onwards, the orders increasingly expanded to include extensive construction projects abroad. In 1943/44 the focus was on the production of standard windows for residential and industrial buildings and standard war windows determined by the Reich Commissioner. Due to the increasing demand for Neuffer windows and scattered production facilities during the Second World War, the premises soon became too small - in March 1955 they moved into larger premises, this time a 6,500 m 2 area in Stuttgart-Wangen near the Neckar port . At this location, all production facilities were merged with the administrative unit.

In 1966 Albert Neuffer jun., A grandson of Ludwig-Ulrich Neuffer, took over the management of the window factory and was supported by his son Jörg Neuffer, who joined the company after completing his training in Switzerland, Sweden, the USA and Finland filled his position on the board of the association of " young glasses ".

In 1972 the company had grown to 150 employees and in the following decades was mainly active in the contract sector. One of the most prestigious orders in the company's history was the manufacture, delivery and installation of wood-aluminum windows for the headquarters of Daimler AG Stuttgart-Möhringen .

Michael Neuffer joined in 1995, the company stopped producing its own windows and doors and has been purchasing products from a network of manufacturers and suppliers ever since.

In 2005, the brothers Jörg and Philipp Neuffer, now in the fifth generation, took over Neuffer Fenster + Tore GmbH as company owners and managing directors. However, they separated at the beginning of 2013: Jörg Neuffer has been running the classic offline window trade as Gebr. Neuffer Fensterfabrik GmbH in Stuttgart-Wangen since then, Philipp Neuffer initiated the expansion of the company into an eCommerce company and moved into global relocation on the Internet. Since then he has been selling the online shop fensterversand.com under Neuffer Fenster + Tore GmbH. As one of the first online shops for windows worldwide, the medium-sized company had a turnover of more than 13.5 million euros in 2015. 75% of this fell back to the online shop, which in turn consisted of around 80% sales from private customers and around 20% from sales from business customers.

Today, customers are advised by a network of trading partners and sales locations around the world and supported when buying windows. In addition to orders in other European countries, projects in the USA, Australia and Asia are regularly carried out. Neuffer relies on modern window technology with the designation of origin "Made in Germany". With the takeover of 66.1% of the company shares in Neuffer by the Swedish investment company Latour on January 1, 2016, the company is aiming for even greater internationalization. At that time, the company had 24 employees, had a turnover of over 13 million euros and 3% profitability, and by mid-2017 the number of employees had tripled to over 60. In addition, the management board was enlarged, the office space in Kronprinzstrasse was modernized and all departments (including development, marketing, content management) expanded.
