A Premiere is the first performance of a film , a stage play or opera - staging . Premieres are also known as world premieres and premieres . The first performance of a new production of a work that had premiered earlier is also referred to as a premiere.
The word comes from the French : première = "first". Premieres are usually celebrated in a festive setting. At film premieres, it is customary for the most important contributors ( director , producer , scriptwriter , actor, etc.) to be present.
The counterpart to the premiere is the Dernière , i.e. the last performance of a piece.
First broadcast
The first broadcast of a television or radio broadcast is comparable to the premiere . This means a first broadcast, as opposed to a repetition.
