Location of Neuleiningen-Tal in Rhineland-Palatinate |
Neuleiningen-Tal is a hamlet that consists of only a few houses and belongs to the local community of Neuleiningen in the Bad Dürkheim district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).
location
While the main town is around 300 m above sea level on a foothill near the northern end of the Palatinate Haardt around the Neuleiningen castle of the same name , the hamlet is about 120 m below the Eckbach . A section of the Eckbach-Mühlenwanderweg runs along this path , which connects 23 mills in the region, some of which have been restored. Two of these are located in the Neuleiningen valley. Below the Eckbachtal opens to the vine-covered hilly landscape on the western edge of the Rhine plain . The neighboring town of Kleinkarlbach borders directly to the east of the hamlet .
Attractions
- Eckbachweiher
Above (to the west) of the two mills, the water to the Eckbachweiher is dammed . In the past, this served as a flood protection on the one hand, and on the other hand, as a water reservoir, it ensured the operation of the mills in dry periods.
- Obermühle
The Obermühle , first mentioned in 1615, is a former grain and paper mill. It was converted into a porcelain and earthenware factory in 1864, which ran into economic difficulties after the First World War and had to be liquidated in 1937. The converted facility will be used by a forwarding company in the 21st century.
- Rock mill
The rock mill located about 300 m downstream was first mentioned in 1490. It consists of the main house in the north, a residential wing in the east, a large old barn in the south and the mill wing in the west; a paved courtyard extends in between. The ground floor of the main house is one floor higher than the courtyard, which is reached via a double staircase in the middle.
In the middle of the 18th century, the miller Matthias Geißler , the owner of the Obermühle, bought the rock mill after resorting to a ruse: instead of - like his predecessors - leaving his process water to the rock mill operator via a canal running parallel to the Eckbach , Geissler diverted it directly into the Eckbach. Since this flows past 50 m south of the rock mill, the mill was drained, so that its livelihood was taken away. Geissler acquired it in order to run it himself afterwards. In 1749 he received a permit to serve wine in the mill. In the 19th and 20th centuries it served various purposes: glaze production for the stoneware factory in the Obermühle, then beer, and finally a prison camp in World War II.
Since 1994 it was again an inn, which also ran a wine bar and a hotel garni. A huge undershot waterwheel could be seen in the dining room . After the owner had to close the facility for reasons of age in 2004, it stood empty and suffered break-ins and frost damage. After renovation, it has been open again since summer 2007.
- Historical washing area
On the hillside west of the village and south of the Eckbachweiher is the historic washing area of Neuleiningen , from the 19th century, one of the few remaining facilities of this type.
