Neuro-oncology
The neuro-oncology (from ancient Greek νεῦρον neuron , German , nerve ' , ὄγκος ONKOS , German , swelling' and -λογία -logia , German , teaching ' ,' science ') is the medical (sub-) area stretching with malignant diseases ( Cancer ) of the nervous system . There is no specialist in neuro-oncology in Germany .
Area of Expertise
The specialist area is the cross-sectional subject of neurology and oncology . It uses methods of neuroradiology and neuropathology for diagnosis . Therapy is usually carried out through surgery ( neurosurgery ) and radiation ( radiation therapy ), but also through chemotherapy .
The neuro-oncology deals with the causes and clinical features, and with the detection and treatment. a. the following diseases:
- primary tumors of the central nervous system ( brain tumors and tumors of the spinal cord )
- secondary tumors of the central nervous system ( brain metastases and metastases of the spinal cord)
- malignant lymphomas of the central nervous system
- Peripheral Nervous System Tumors
