history

The history of the hospital is a typical example of the development of Catholic nursing and care facilities in the of mining and steel industry dominated Ruhr . In 1868 four Franciscan Sisters from Salzkotten took over the care of the sick in Castrop-Rauxel. A year later the St. Rochus Hospital was inaugurated, in which five sisters under the direction of Superior Sr. Paula looked after 30 sick people. In 1912, after several structural expansion steps, more than 2000 sick people were cared for. In the mid-1950s, an emergency room, a laboratory and a bathing and radiation facility were added. In 1966 the first pacemaker was used and three years later a heavily used cancer counseling center was set up. In 1980 an ambulance was put into operation. In 1983 the Franciscan Sisters left the hospital after 115 years of charitable service. From 1987 to 1993 expansion and partly new construction followed with an investment volume of 46.9 million DM. In 1998 the house was certified for the first time . In July of the same year, it merged with the Dortmund West Catholic Hospital to form the Castrop / Dortmund-West Catholic Hospital Community. In 2004 the surgical / internal abdominal station was set up and the St. Rochus Hospital merged with the St. Lambertus Nursing Facilities, the Catholic Hospital Dortmund West and the St. Josef Hospital in Dortmund-Hörde to form the Catholic St. Lukas Society. In 2005 the St. Rochus Hospital was a founding member of the Darmzentrum Ruhr. In 2006 the certification according to proCumCert and KTQ took place . In 2010 a new central warehouse was built at St. Rochus Hospital, from which all facilities of the Catholic St. Lukas Society are supplied.
