Neuss Carnival

In Neuss , which lies in the Rhineland between the two carnival strongholds of Cologne and Düsseldorf , local customs are very important (see Neuss Citizens' Schützenfest ). The carnival is celebrated here just as it is in the other cities in the region.

It differs from the neighboring cities in particular in two important events:

  • On the one hand, the "Nüsser Ovend", which takes place every Saturday in the week before Altweiber,
  • as well as the Kappessonntags train on Carnival Sunday, which runs through the city center.

In Neuss, like in the neighboring Düsseldorf Carnival , “Helau” is called out. (See also Rhenish Carnival ).

Nüsser Ovend

The "Nüsser Ovend" is held every year on the Saturday before the actual carnival week. In 2010 the 82nd Nüsser Ovend took place under the motto “För Nüsser jilt: At the Ovend only em kilt”. In 2010, 900 disguised visitors were in the town hall for this event. Carnival artists and bands known locally and regionally appear, the topics of the speeches are largely local and local political. The Nüsser Ovend is organized by the BKG Heimatfreunde.

Other events

  • The Stunk in Neuss / Düsseldorf from the Theater am Schlachthof takes place every year in January / February in Neuss in the betting hall on the racetrack and in Düsseldorf until 2017 in the zakk and since 2018 in the Capitol and reaches a total of around 9,000 spectators.
  • Also known is the Rose Monday procession in Holzheim , which every year particularly attracts families with children.
