Neustädter Rathaus (Herford)
The Neustädter Rathaus is a listed Renaissance building in Herford .
History and description
The gabled stone house at Lübberstraße 31 (corner of Neuer Markt ) was built in 1579 over an older core. Until it was merged with the old town in 1634, it served as the town hall of Herford's new town . However, the Ratskeller was used for centuries longer. In 1767 the house was sold in private ownership.
The original stepped gable, dated 1600, in the Weser Renaissance style with tracery crowning fell into disrepair over time. It was demolished in 1930 because of dilapidation and reconstructed in 1988. With the Wulferthaus opposite , the Neustädter Rathaus forms an ensemble of buildings .
The house has been a listed building since 1982 .
