The Neve Shalom Synagogue ( Hebrew בית הכנסת נווה שלום Beit ha-Knesset neve Shalom ; Turkish Neve Şalom Sinagogu ) is the largest house of worship for the Jews in Turkey . The Hebrew name means oasis of peace and is derived from Isa 32:18  EU .

The synagogue is located in the Beyoğlu district on the European side of Istanbul . After a two-year construction period, it was completed on March 25, 1951 according to the plans of Elio Ventura and Bernard Motola and handed over to its intended use.

So far, three terrorist attacks have been carried out on the synagogue:

  • On September 6, 1986, Palestinian terrorists raided the synagogue during prayer time, killing 25 parishioners.
  • During the bomb attack on March 1, 1992, damage was prevented thanks to the intervention of the security forces.
  • The terrorist attacks in Istanbul on November 15, 2003 also targeted the Neve Shalom Synagogue and killed a total of 24 people, including six members of the Istanbul Jewish community.
