Nevele was a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region . It was in the province of East Flanders and belonged to the Ghent arrondissement . Nevele had 12,179 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018) and an area of 51.89 km². The community was created on January 1, 1977 through the merger of the core community with five other districts to form the new large community. On January 1, 2019, Nevele was incorporated into Deinze .
The place Nevele was first mentioned in writing as Niviala in the 9th century . However, the document is only available in a copy from the year 941.
The city of Deinze was five kilometers south, Ghent twelve kilometers east, Bruges 30 kilometers northwest and Brussels 60 kilometers southeast.
Nevele has a motorway exit on the A10 / E 40 , others are located south of Deinze on the A14 / E 17 and in Gent.
On the Ostend –Brügge – Gent railway line , the municipality of Nevele owned two regional train stations in the districts of Hansbeke and Merendree . In Deinze there is another train station of more regional importance and in Ghent the next long-distance train station with international train connections such as Thalys .
