The Ford Focus, introduced in 1998, reflected the formal language of the New Edge design

The New Edge Design (dt .: New-edge design ) designates one of Ford design line used for a variety of vehicle models.

The design developed by Jack Telnack was used for the first time in the Ford Ka small car , which was presented in autumn 1996. It was later adopted for the Puma , Focus , Cougar , Fiesta , Galaxy and Mondeo models .

It is characterized by its sober lines and the polygonal shape of individual vehicle components. Correspondingly designed components essentially include the headlights and rear lights as well as the fenders and the radiator grille . The design features were also transferred to the shape of the cockpit and its controls.

The new-edge design has been replaced by the so-called kinetic design , which can be found in many current models since 2004. It is based on its predecessor, but takes back the strict edge look a little.
