New Era is a state-run daily newspaper in Namibia with a circulation of around 8,000 (Monday to Thursday) or 17,000 (Friday) copies. Up to June 2017, 17,000 and 25,000 copies were printed per day.

Like its publisher, it was created by the New Era Publication Corporation Act of 1992 . The newspaper initially appeared weekly, but since 2004 as a daily newspaper in the New Era Publication publishing house, which is part of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology .

The editorial office is in Windhoek , the imprint (as of November 2009) lists a total of 18 employees, including the editor-in-chief and one representative each in Oshakati , Opuwo , Rundu and Walvis Bay .

Alignment

Like the other state media in Namibia, the New Era is part of a nation building strategy and thus exposed to certain expectations from representatives of the state, government and ruling party. Observers therefore repeatedly accuse the newspaper of partiality. The newspaper itself emphasizes that it is striving for the greatest possible independence.

Although New Era is primarily intended to promote the English language in general , it also has individual pages in other languages (including Otjiherero , Oshivambo ).
