from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Hampshire Central Railroad is a former railroad company in New Hampshire ( United States ).

history

The company was founded on June 24, 1848 and had initially received a concession to build and operate a railway line from Manchester to Claremont . In 1850 the line went into operation to Henniker , where there was a connection to the Contoocook Valley Railroad . The Manchester – Henniker line was 41 kilometers long.

In the meantime, the Concord and Claremont Railroad had opened a route from Concord to Bradford , where the planned extension of the NHCR to Claremont should connect. In order to achieve a joint and thus more profitable operation, the NHCR merged on May 1, 1853 with Concord & Claremont to form the Merrimac and Connecticut Rivers Railroad . The line was never extended towards Bradford and is now completely closed.
