New Plymouth is a bay with extensive coastline on the west coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies south of Start Point and is bounded to the west by Rugged Island .
The name of the bay had been known to seal hunters since at least 1822 and is derived from the British city of Plymouth .
