The Newport Point is a headland on the west coast of the Antarctic Ross Island . It limits the entrance to Horseshoe Bay to the south .
The New Zealand Geographic Board named it after Terry Newport, a carpenter for the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program , who was killed on October 13, 1992 when a Bell UH-1 helicopter crashed near this headland with two other passengers.
