NewsML-G2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NewsML-G2 is an XML - Multimedia - News - exchange format of the IPTC , the International Press Telecommunications Council.

As part of the IPTC-G2 standard family, NewsML-G2 represents an envelope for one or more news items (such as text articles, a photo or a video clip) or as a structured package of file links to news items , and contains metadata to describe the relationships between the message units. NewsML-G2 is a B2B standard that helps news and press agencies create complex packages of multimedia news in a single cohesive bundle. NewsML-G2 2.15 is the latest version.

Unlike the previous versions, NewsML 1.x, NewsML-G2 uses standardized XML - “Building Blocks” and metadata. These building blocks are used in other IPTC-G2 standards so that system programmers can reuse the code.

Similar to NewsML, NewsML-G2 is not a text or image format . For example, there is no way to mark chapters or headings. Instead, it is a shell and management system for one or more files of almost all kinds.

For the formatting of text articles, IPTC mentions the News Industry Text Format (NITF) or XHTML as common examples.

NewsML-G2 is used by several large international news agencies including Agence France-Presse , Associated Press , Austria Presse Agentur , dpa Deutsche Presse-Agentur , Thomson Reuters and others.
