Antony Anghie

Antony "Tony" T. Anghie (*  1961 ) is an Australian lawyer and professor of international law at the University of Utah .

Life

Anghie initially completed his university education at Monash University in Melbourne . There he was awarded the Bachelor of Arts in 1986 with a specialization in post-colonial literature , political philosophy and development policy . In the following year he also received a Bachelor of Laws specializing in international law and human rights . He passed both degrees with distinction. During his studies he worked, among other things, as a research assistant at the chair of Christopher Weeramantry . From June 1988 to March 1990 he also completed the practical part of the legal training with a law firm in Melbourne and was then admitted as a solicitor and barrister at the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia . After graduating from Monash University, Anghie worked for the Australian Law Reform Commission from March to July 1990 before moving to Harvard University for postgraduate studies. In 1991, he received a Master of Laws and was trained by David W. Kennedy with a thesis in the field of international law history doctorate . After completing his studies, he received a call to a professorship at the University of Utah. There he has been lecturing on international and international investment law since then. From 1995 to 2001 he was also responsible for the conception of the university's LL.M program. In addition, he has already held numerous visiting professorships, including at the London School of Economics , Cornell University and the American University in Cairo . Anghie is also an associate editor of various professional journals such as the American Journal of International Law . He has worked several times as an advisor to governments and non-governmental organizations . Between 1998 and 2000 he supported the Sri Lankan Ministry of Justice in reforming legal training.

Memberships and honors

Anghie has been a member of the American Society for International Law since 1995 and was a member of its executive council from 2006 to 2009. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Executive Council of the Asian Society for International Law . In 2005 and 2007 he received his university's Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award .
