Neydhartinger Moor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neydhartinger Moor is a flat moor in the market town of Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting in Upper Austria . The moor was declared a nature reserve by the Upper Austrian provincial government in 2005 .

The moor has a size of around 1 km², the Wimbach flows through it and is located around 2.5 km southwest of Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting. It originated in the pre-alpine moraine landscape . Over the course of several millennia, a small glacial lake silted up due to intensive plant growth. The biomass sank into the water again and again in its vegetation cycle and thus formed the bog.

The Austrian Moor Research Institute in Neydharting, founded by Otto Stöber after the Second World War , examined the moor scientifically with regard to its effect as a healing moor.

Mud bath

At the edge of the moor is the moor bath Neydharting , mentioned in a document as early as 1050 , where Paracelsus was already active as a spa doctor.
