Infrastructure

Planned rail connections between India and Bhutan, including to Nganglam

In the structurally weak region of southern Bhutan, measures to improve the infrastructure, especially in the area of transport, have been increasingly taken in recent years. This includes the construction of a 77 kilometer long road from Gyalpoizhing to Nganglam, the construction of which lasted from 2006 to 2018 due to the difficult terrain. The road significantly shortens the distance to the north of the country and is intended to help the southern Dzongkhags to regain prosperity.

New infrastructure projects are also to be implemented in rail transport. As part of a feasibility study, five routes were proposed to connect the Indian rail network with Bhutan, including from Pathshala to Nganglam in India.
