Nguyễn Duy Trinh (born July 15, 1910 in Nghi Lộc , Nghệ An , French Indochina , today: Vietnam ; † April 20, 1985 in Hanoi ) was a Vietnamese politician of the Communist Party of Vietnam KPV (Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam) , the Among other things, he was Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of North Vietnam between 1965 and 1976 and then Foreign Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from 1976 to 1980 .

Life

Nguyễn Duy Trinh joined the student movement in Vinh as early as 1925 at the age of 15 and became a member of the Tân Việt party in 1926, for which he became politically active in Saigon . Because of his political activities, he was arrested and sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and deported to central Vietnam. After his release he became a member of the Communist Party of Indochina (Đảng Cộng sản Đông Dương) in his birthplace . After he was imprisoned again between 1930 and 1931, he was exiled to the Côn Đảo archipelago and then to the province of Kon Tum after his release . After escaping in 1941, he was captured again.

At the Second Party Congress (February 11-19, 1951), at which the Indochina Communist Party changed to the Party of the Working People of Vietnam (PdWV), he was elected a member of the Central Committee (ZK). In August 1955 he also became secretary of the Central Committee and held this position until September 12, 1960. Furthermore, in October 1956, he first became a candidate and immediately afterwards a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee, the party's top leadership body. In 1958 he became chairman of the State Planning Committee and held this office until he was replaced by Nguyễn Côn on January 28, 1965. On the III. At the Congress of the 5th to 10th February 1960 he was re-elected as a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee. On January 7, 1963, he also replaced Võ Nguyên Giáp as chairman of the State Committee for Science and remained in this position until October 11, 1965, whereupon TrĐạn Đại Nghtra succeeded him.

As the successor to Xuân Thủy , Nguyễn Duy Trinh took over the post of Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of North Vietnam on April 1, 1965. On January 27, 1973, he signed the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam on behalf of North Vietnam , which regulated the United States' withdrawal from the Vietnam War . After the reunification of North Vietnam and South Vietnam to form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on July 2, 1976, he became the first foreign minister and held this office until February 7, 1980, when he was replaced by Nguyễn Cơ Thạch . At the 4th Party Congress (December 14-20, 1976) he was confirmed as a member of the Politburo and elected to the Secretariat of the Central Committee and held these two functions until March 31, 1982. At the 5th Party Congress ( March 27 - 31, 1982) he was re-elected as a member of the Central Committee, of which he was a member until his death on April 20, 1985.
