Hans Jürgen Brandt

Hans Jürgen Brandt (born April 28, 1938 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German Catholic theologian .

Live and act

Franz Hengsbach ordained him as a priest on February 2, 1965 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer . After two chaplain positions in Gelsenkirchen-Horst and Wattenscheid , and since 1970 city youth chaplain in Wattenscheid, he was released in 1972 for further studies at the Ruhr University Bochum , where he received his doctorate as a research assistant to Josef Lenzenweger . During this time he served as subsidiar at the Bochum Provost Church of St. Peter and Paul priestly act. In 1978 he became and Modern Church History in the subject habilitation . The Defense Minister, Hans Apel , appointed the Bochum private lecturer in 1980 to be professor of Catholic theology with special attention to Christian social doctrine at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich . When he was accepted into the Commandery Patrona Bavariae of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in 1982, he joined his second adopted home, Munich. But at the same time he remained closely connected to the Ruhr Diocese of Essen . He took over the deputy head of the Institute for Research on Church History of the Diocese of Essen, which was founded in 1976, from 1983 to 1991 as an honorary professor at the Essen seminary, introducing the prospective priests to the history of pastoral care, and since 1990 he has been a member of the cathedral chapter as a canon of honor at the Essen cathedral .
