Nic Nicosia

Nic Nicosia (* 1951 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American photographer and video artist .

Nic Nicosia studied radio , film and television at North Texas State University in Denton . After graduating in 1974, he worked on various projects. With a loan from his father, a dentist, he opened a camera shop in Denton. He learned a lot from his clients, some of whom studied photography. Nicosia enrolled in a graduate class in North Texas in the late 1970s. He uses friends, family and professional models to thematize life in the American suburbs .

With the video Middletown (1997) he returned to film.

Nicosia was awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Prize in 1984 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010 . He took part in numerous exhibitions, including the 1992 documenta IX in Kassel.
