Nicholas Audley, 2nd Baron Audley of Heleigh (after another count also 1st Baron Audley ) (born November 11, 1289 , † before December 6, 1316 ) was an English magnate .

Nicholas Audley came from the English noble Audley family . He was the second son of Nicholas Audley, 1st Baron Audley of Heleigh and his wife Catherine Giffard, a daughter of John Giffard, 1st Baron Giffard and his wife Maud Longspée. His father died in 1299, after the death of his older brother Thomas in 1307, Nicholas inherited his father's estate, the center of which was Heighley Castle in Staffordshire. During his minority his estates were administered by the royal favorite Piers Gaveston .

Nicholas married in 1312 without the permission of King Joan , the widow of Henry de Lacy, 3rd Earl of Lincoln and daughter of William Martin, 1st Baron Martin and his wife Eleanor. In reparation, Audley had to pay 900 marks to Ralph de Monthermer , to whom the king had originally granted the right to remarry the widow. With the help of three friends, Audley was able to raise the sum by July 26, 1313. On January 8, 1313 Audley was as Baron Audley of Heleigh in the Parliament appointed. He was one of the 471 nobles and knights whom King Edward II pardoned after the execution of Piers Gaveston by a noble opposition, presumably because at least two of Audley's vassals were also pardoned. Audley presumably belonged to the English army, which suffered a crushing defeat against the Scots at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 .

With his wife he had a daughter and a son, including:

His heir became his son James, who came under the tutelage of Roger Mortimer . Audley's widow, Joan, did not remarry.
