Nicholas Boquet

Nicholas S. Bouquet (born November 14, 1842 in Landau , Bavaria ; † December 27, 1912 ) was a German soldier who served in the American Civil War. On February 16, 1897, he received the US government's highest military award, the Medal of Honor , for his participation in the Battle of Wilson's Creek on August 10, 1861.

Life

Bouquet was sent to America at a young age to avoid serving in the German army. Before the outbreak of the American Civil War, he worked as a copper and barrel manufacturer in Burlington . In April 1861, he was drafted into the 1st Iowa Infantry in Burlington, Iowa .

In July 1862, he joined the 25th Iowa Infantry as a sergeant . He served in this regiment until June 1865. He was buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.
