Nicholson is an impact crater on the far western edge of the moon front , southeast of the Mare Orientale on the edge of the Montes Rook , northeast of the Pettit crater . The irregular rim of the crater is only slightly eroded, and traces of landslides can be seen inside.
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1970 after the American astronomer Seth Barnes Nicholson .
