Pettit is an impact crater on the far western edge of the front of the moon in the Montes Rook mountain range , southwest of Nicholson Crater . The rim of the crater is only slightly eroded, the interior is uneven.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1970 after the American astronomer Edison Pettit .
