Nick Smidt (born May 12, 1997 in Assen ) is a Dutch hurdler who specializes in the 400 meter distance .

Athletic career

Nick Smidt gained his first international experience in 2015 when he was eliminated in the semifinals of the Junior European Championships in Eskilstuna with 52.59 seconds. Two years later he was disqualified in the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz and in 2018 he took part in the European Championships in Berlin for the first time, where he was eliminated with 50.96 seconds. He also started with the Dutch 4 x 400 meter relay, but did not make it to the final with 3: 04.93 min. In 2019 he won the silver medal behind Frenchman Wilfried Happio at the U23 European Championships in Gävle in 49.49 s and also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated in the preliminary round with 50.54 s .

In 2018 and 2019, Smidt became the Dutch champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
