The district of Jepelacio is located in the province of Moyobamba in the San Martín region in the central north of Peru . The district founded on October 26, 1921 has an area of 386 km². The 2017 census counted 16,519 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 13,568, in 2007 it was 18,471. The district administration is located in the 1040 m high town of Jepelacio with 3159 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jepelacio is 10 km southeast of the provincial capital Moyobamba .
Geographical location
The Jepelacio district is located in the southeast of the Moyobamba province. The district stretches from the Río Indoche in the west to the Río Mayo in the east. Several ridges run through the district, which are attributed to the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera .
The district of Jepelacio borders in the southwest with the district Soritor , in the extreme northwest with the districts Habana and Calzada , in the north with the district Moyobamba , in the northeast with the district Pinto Recodo ( province Lamas ), in the southeast with the district Alonso de Alvarado (likewise in the province of Lamas) and in the south to the district of San Martín ( province of El Dorado ).
