The Moyobamba Province is one of ten provinces in the San Martín region in northern Peru . It has an area of 3772.31 km². The 2017 census counted 122,365 inhabitants in the province. In 1993 the population was 69,943, in 2007 115,389. The provincial administration is located in the city of Moyobamba .
Geographical location
The province of Moyobamba is in the north of the San Martín region. The ridges of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera cross the area in a north-westerly direction. The province has a lengthwise extension in NW-SE direction of about 135 km. The Río Mayo flows through the province in a predominantly southeastern direction.
The province of Moyobamba borders in the north on the province Datem del Marañón ( region Loreto ), in the northeast on the province Alto Amazonas (also in the region Loreto), in the southeast on the province Lamas , in the south on the provinces El Dorado and Huallaga , im West to the provinces of Rodríguez de Mendoza ( Amazon region ), Rioja and Bongará (Amazon region).

The Moyobamba Province is divided into six districts. The district of Moyobamba is the seat of the provincial administration.
