Nick Whitby

Nick Whitby (* 1963 in London ) is a British playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Whitby studied English literature at the University of Oxford . He wrote his first plays while still a student. His debut was in 1984 with Bolivia , which premiered at the Old Red Lion Theater in London. His piece Dirty Dishes from 1985, which also saw international performances, was successful , for example, it was shown at the Schillertheater in Berlin with the participation of Sebastian Koch ; the Austrian premiere took place under the direction of Augustin Jagg in 1997. With his own theater production company True West, Whitby undertook an England tour of his play Am Spielfeld in 2008, among other things .

In 2008, Whitby's piece to be or not , an adaptation of the film to be or not of Ernst Lubitsch , premiered on Broadway. In Germany the first performance took place in 2009 at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and in Austria on March 15, 2012 in the Wiener Kammerspiele .

Whitby also works as a screenwriter for film and television. Together with Eddie Izzard he wrote skits for the Sean's Show and for Smack the Pony and wrote the surreal sitcom Cows with Izzard for Channel 4 in 1997 , which was canceled after the pilot film . His docudrama Last Flight To Kuwait was broadcast on the BBC in 2007.

Whitby lives in Cornwall with his family .
