The Nickell Peak is an ice-free mountaintop in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 1.6 km southeast of Sponsors Peak on the west side of the Upper Victoria Glacier .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1976 after Gregory William Nickell (1948-1974) of the National Science Foundation , manager of the Eklund Biological Center and the Thiel Earth Sciences Laboratory at McMurdo Station , on May 15, 1974 at a truck -Accident between McMurdo Station and Scott Base was killed.
