Nico (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nico (* 1966 in Oxford ; actually Nicholas Kristian Sykes ) is a trained studio engineer and drum and bass producer and was one of the founders of the Techstep genre alongside Trace in the mid-1990s . He also published under the pseudonyms Deependance and DJ NKS . Other projects were TMF ( Jungle with Phil Legg and P. Purpose), User 102 ( UK Hardcore ) and Spider Net (both with Peter Lazaro) and Rollers Instinct and Skyscraper (both with Trace).

Nico founded the label No U-Turn Records , on which he produced the LP Torque in 1996 with Ed Rush , Trace and Fierce .

What was new about his style was the strong minimalism of the beats at the time, as well as their strongly distorted sounds, which were aggressive even with relatively slow tunes. In contrast to Ed Rush, with whom he worked a lot, Nico did not appear as a DJ , but played live on a simple sampler, which was unusual for the time .
