Nicolaj Klapkarek

Nicolaj Klapkarek (born July 16, 1965 in Bochum ; first name often misspelled as Nicolai ) is a German swimmer . The 1.88 m tall and 75 kg heavy athlete started for the SG Bochum-Wattenscheid .

Career as a swimmer

Klapkarek was able to place himself several times in German championships:

  • 1983: Master 200 m back (2: 05.56 min.)
  • 1986: 3rd place 200 m individual medley
  • 1987: Vice-champion 200 m medley, 3rd place 200 m back

He participated in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and achieved the following results:

  • 200 m medley: 7th place in 2: 05.88 minutes (Olympic champion was the Canadian Alexander Baumann in the world record time of 2: 01.42 minutes)
  • 200 m back: 6th place in 2: 03.95 min. (Gold went to the American Richard Carey in 2: 00.23 min.)
  • 100 m back: In eleventh place he qualified for the B final, where he came in 7th in 58.56 seconds (Olympic champion Richard Carey swam 55.79 seconds)
  • 4 × 100 m individual medley : 4th place in 2: 22.98 minutes (3 tenths behind third-placed Swedes ), team: Dirk Korthals , Andreas Schmidt , Alexander Schowtka , Michael Groß and Nicolaj Klapkarek
