Nicolas Nuoffer (born June 1, 1850 in Friborg ; † February 1, 1902 there) was a Swiss politician and State Chancellor of the Canton of Friborg . He was a member of the Conservative Party.

Life

Catholic , from Freiburg , his parents were François-Bernard Nuoffer and Marie geb. Raemy. Nicolas-Aloys-Michel Nuoffer remained unmarried.

Nicolas Nuoffer first attended the German-speaking, then the French-speaking primary school and was an excellent student of the St. Michael College . Everything seemed to point to a law school, but at first he found a modest job in the offices of the State Chancellery. As for continuing his career, he appears to have hesitated. He first studied medicine in Bern (1874) and Basel (1875), but then went abroad as a teacher and taught at the Gymnasium in Birkenruh ( Livonia ) and at the Riga Academy in Estonia, Russia.

Since Nicolas Nuoffer had maintained good contacts with Freiburg , the State Council appointed him Vice Chancellor on October 4, 1888. When State Chancellor Bise resigned in 1894, he became his successor and held this office until 1902. All emphasized his eagerness to serve and his correctness, his methodical spirit and his sense of order. He was the prime example of a gracious and courteous top official.

In his free time, Nicolas Nuoffer had two hobbies: hiking in the foothills of the Alps and music. He was a member of the choral societies La Cécilienne and La Mutuelle , the Cercle de la Concorde and the La Landwehr wind orchestra .
